Cock-a-Doodle-Doing Well

Maria read my new book right straight through
And I was delighted to hear her say
That she read it all and enjoyed it too
Tinamarie said the same yesterday
And read my poems to her aunt out loud

So now my daughter and my friend agree
That I am writing well and they are proud
Of me so can you guess how that makes me
Feel? Like crowing with a comb on my head

I feel like I have won the lottery
Like cock-a-doodle-doing but instead
Since I was raised to bow my head and pray
To thank the Lord for blessing me this way
That is what I do and may he bless you

I have done my best and have passed the test
Of Maria and of Tinamarie
I hope you will enjoy my new book too
This Lucky Little Bastard may be odd
But amazed by grace I am thanking God
That he has made a poet of mere me

Though what will happen next nobody can tell
Today I am cock-a-doodle-doing well
