Dad’s day is tomorrow
A national event
It could be filled with sorrow
If I allowed myself lament
For even though he now is gone
I’ll choose another trail
A path of smiling celebration
My dad’s life I will hail
A very softly spoken man
To the point of being shy
Except when several brewski’s
Would set his words a fly
He had a very soft heart too
Often doing things for others
Expecting nothing in return
Pleasing people was his druthers
A man of higher science
An engineer supreme
A kind of Rube Goldberg copy cat
The contraptions he would scheme
People paid him money
For the stuff that he’d invent
He garnered several patents
Pursuing our National defense
But most of all he was my Dad
He crafted my foundation
And provided me a blueprint
To conquer each life situation
Although I miss him dearly
He gave me strength to carry on
And that’s exactly what I’ll do
Now that my special Dad is gone
For those of you who still have one
Cherish this day for all that it’s worth
Spend some time with your father
For someday he’ll leave this earth

My father has been gone 11 years, I still miss him and always will
