Passings We passed by each other Nearly silent Only the slapping of wave crests Against our massive bow Tattled our forward motion The other vessel, almost ghostlike Her stern to the sun And wind at her back Hundreds of eyes upon her Unaware of their gaze Thousands of lives Moving in opposite directions Dancing on the waves Above the countless graves below The unfortunate victims Of Columbia’s clash with the Tide Here in the Graveyard of the Pacific Over the centuries where ships were lost And thousands more have died Copyright 2009 Patrick A. Patrick I felt like I was there in the foggy night as ships silently pass each other, you truly captured this exprience. Had this feeling on one of the cruises I took many years ago,as I watched a far off ship go by in the night without a sound...

For an old sailor this one open a forgotten drawer with going brownish memories, of ships really passing each other in the night, the fog and the sudden oblivion, and the ever waiting sea deeps to wrap with its arm the sailors in their final voyage.

Awesome write Patrick! The imagery portrayed by your words is fabulous. Never been on a cruise, but your poem certainly is an inspiration to do one...I'd probably think the way you do...about the souls who were lost in the area.
