An apology of an autobiography, more a Ripple-ology.

Poem Artwork

I was born

thats for sure

albeit maybe

upside down,

in a place called

Loughborough

which had a Cattle market,

maybe I was born there

who can say.

Years rolled on

I was three maybe four

lived in London

near the London to Brighton

railway line.

Loved those steam trains

as they passed by

also the Milkmans horse

who knocked our door

with his tongue

to get a sugar lump

well I thought it was fun.

Moved again

after my sister was born

to house that was magic

right next to a farm.

Saw Calves being born

had Rabitts as pets

loved living there

never wanted to leave,

yet we did again

a sad bleak house

left happy behind

let my Rabitts run free

even now I sigh

I was eight I believe.

Yet as the years passed

times would changed

some for the better

others too sad,

left school at fifteen

left that prison behind

at least thats what I called it

it was so unkind.

Then at Eighteen

I fell in love

maybe I was born

with a bang on the head,

for my world changed

married in the year

nineteen sixty four

like we both walked through a door.

Memories ripple

like those across a lake

never seem to end

just go on accumalate,

watched our children born

moved into our own home

so many changes

through life you grow,

never have time to blink

look at all those ripples

across lifes lake.

May they go on and on

never end

I dont want to get old

just be a ripple

travel from there

to here

and back again,

I sigh

may it never end

at least were still married

have grandchildren.

The story of your life wrapped up in a poem. That's an accomplishment in itself. I enjoyed your ripple traveling through time and back again. Your grandchildren will appreciate it and read it many years into the future, discerning what their old granddad was as a poet.

"We're still married" is the most memorable part of the poem.

To be a ripple on the water of time. A beautiful thought. A magical wish.
