The Patience Of Jesus...

Our children copy our behavior...in speech and deeds. I know this because my baby boy, at one time, was in the habit of using the foulest language around me or anybody all the time. But then...I do recall that I used to use the same foul language around him and my other children. I thank God that His Mercy and Sweet Grace, changed me. I stopped using profanity after 'He' came into my life. However, my baby boy who has yet to entirely surrender his life to Christ...it's taking him a while. Now I am grateful to the Lord that my son doesn't use profanity like he used to, but every once in a while a word or two might slip out and he apologizes... most times on his own, but sometimes I've got to pull his coat. So, this is my question; what does one do in the interim? What does one do until the offspring, whom they know they influenced to err, gets it together? Well, I'm Praising Jesus that 'He' is still in the 'saving business', I cannot change my son but Jesus can. So one has to be 'patient' and wait...the same way Jesus waited for them.

Nobody could out cuss me...

Jesus' ears must have burned

'Cause when I got finished...

you were rightly told off and spurned

I tell you, the filthy words

just seemed to fly out of me...

Why a conversation wasn't right

if I didn't cuss...you see

Cussing seem to make the point clearer

it dotted the i's and crossed the t's

...that's just how it was with me

And of all my children...

and I thank God I have four

...it's my baby boy that reminds me

of me...the more

Cussing was his forte and I'm not surprised

'cause like I said...I know the score

Now, my children have witnessed

God's miraculous intervention in my life

And I am careful to extend to them...

patience...seeing them thru God's light

...I overlook at lot...'til Jesus gets them right

My boy said the same things that

I used to say...

expressing himself in the same way

I don't raise an eyebrow because...

I was his example...me

I gave Jesus little consideration...

until the day He set me free

And I wonder...

did He set me free that I should

wear a righteous crown...

always looking up and never down?

Did He set me free

so that I could forget

all those years that He put up with me...

without a complaint or a fret?

Did he set me free

so that I could refuse to recall

'way back when'...

and to point a finger now

...and condemn?

Or did He set me free to 'do unto others'

to reach up and grab some of His abundant love...

pouring it on sons, daughters, sisters & brothers?

Sometimes folks would get upset with me...

when my son cursed and I chose to ignore

But see...I was thinking about how...Jesus

He gave me love galore

Just recalling...

how He went to Calvary

and all he endured...from me

...cussing episodes of blatant disrespect

Why, I'm remembering gratefully...

and don't ever want to forget

...the patience of Jesus...

with me

So true, little ones do have big ears. What else can you expect when you are their role model?
I enjoyed this well written piece.

A heart-rendering testimonial. Did you ever notice that curse words and vulgar speech is often paired with anger? Whatever sparked your use of improper words, you've certainly overcome it with your strong faith. Just keep holding onto it....

Cursing, suddenly it became acceptable. Before WWII you wouldn't hear a child cuss, something happened with TV and films (Rhett Butler don't giving a damn)that opened the bottle and lot the badmouth genie to go free. And yes, only Him could have "that" kind of patience!

Wonderfully written piece. You know in these current days of our world what we consider curse words are no longer deemed hurtfull. I used to have a sailors mouth maybe because I was a sailor. I really dislike ethnic slurs. That knocks a person birth.

GOD BLESS YOU
Tony
