"...Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter..." Martin Luther King(1929-1968)
It is most befitting that in the USA, across this land, a Day of Remembrance in Celebration of the Birth of Civil Rights Activist, Martin Luther King, has been set aside. I thank the Good Lord for giving me this inspiration in recognition of such a noble and worthy life. Though I penned this Tribute in 2011 it is especially significant now, in this country. For, this is a very, very sad time in America. And I, along with so many others, with much Pride and Gratitude...thank Almighty God for Martin's short, but so full Living. Indeed, he had the Heart and Insight of a True Leader, for...he was not a hater! He was not a law-breaker! He was not an insurrectionist! He was not a transgressing murderer! Dr King was filled with the Spirit of Peace, Faith and Love. Through him God reminded us of the persevering qualities which today is so needed and enables us to stand amidst the shameful, grievous assaults and injustices that adorn the 'racist cape' of certain parties in our present Government. Martin's Flight was not in vain! Albeit, let us not follow those that would destroy our precious Country by instigating the 'blind' to trample upon our Treasured Halls of Democracy...those Chambers of which we all have forefathers who have paid a dear price to establish. But rather, let us embrace Martin's Indelible Legacy of Love, Compassion and Forgiveness as we Press-On in the Glowing, Honorable Light...that he left behind.

Blimey, I'm getting old. I can remember them playing the news of his death at school. Until then it hadn't occurred to me that there was supposed to be any difference with other races or colours. I'd not noticed. Yet, even to this day, I am shocked that the country had me loving space through the moon landings could be so petty over something that does not matter. And in the 20th century! Yet my fav group as a kid was the Jackson Five; I saw them as I'd see anyone.
Yet the racism after reading Roots, made me loathe America for the rest of my childhood.
Your poem proves that one man can make a difference in such cultures.
He might not have reached the top of the mountain this side the golden shore but on the other side he reached an infinitely and gloriously higher peak in the presence of his wonderful Lord and Saviour.
Joyce, this is a fitting tribute to our brother in Christ; to a man who matched his faith with mighty actions, giving His Lord Jesus all the glory.
May your poem and his life inspire us to do likewise.
This is such a beautiful and moving tribute to Dr. King who is, indeed, a golden-winged eagle in the throne of God. His dream lives. So well written, Joyce, and touches the heart. ~Love, Elizabeth
Deputy Dave Jenkins investigates the murder of local high school principal, Jerry Egge, but this is a multi-faceted novel that deals with spiritualism, romance, friendship, and children who fall through the cracks.
