I've always looked upon the Prophets and Patriarchs of the Bible as bold and courageous men. Yet, in 1 Kings the 19th Chapter we are told of a time when Elijah, a major prophet, ran away from the evil queen Jezebel. Looking at the fact that he had just demonstrated a most victorious outpouring of his Faith in Almighty God on Mount Carmel(1 Kings 18), I've often wondered...Why Did Elijah run??!! Well, since I know that absolutely 'nothing' happens to a Child of God (good or bad) that God has not first sanctioned...I thought about it for a while and I was filled with this inspiration. And, I wonder...have you ever thought about Elijah with regards to his time of weakness? Or...perhaps, it wasn't his time of weakness, but of enlightenment? In any case...I would love to hear your opinions. Pressing-on, amen.

Why did Elijah run? did this Mount Carmel Prophet suddenly become a 'cowardice' one? / Also...why was his run scripturally revealed and, was it really a trait of 'weakness' which caused him to flee evil's heel? / To me, it wasn't about fear in that hour *for he had always depended upon God* *but suddenly...he couldn't 'feel' His Power* / *Thus, in an instant...God did surely take* *the boldness...which in this prophet He had placed* *and Elijah did face...the jaws of quake* / *One never knows what God will demand* *but, surveyed at our lowest point...we'll find* *the 'cave'...well worth His reaching Hand* / *Now, let us consider what occurred there...* *in Elijah's chosen distant hovel* *surely the message so plain and clear* / *O how tenderly God did care for him* *commanding an angel to bring him meat...* *cajoling His vessel...out of the rocks and dim* / *This biblical account of Elijah's great test* *is a panoramic view...I do conclude* *which showed humility...at its best* / *For, if one's a stranger to a hole in a mountain* *or...has never known the grip of fear, how...* *can they point to...Emmanuel's Healing Fountain?* / One must have in 'shivers grip' laid... *in order to encourage and say, look up...!* *to those who may falter and grow...afraid* / *As, being human...trembling might be felt* *but when God strengthens...we press-on* *trusting 'Him'...for whatever may be dealt* / *Thus, for 'us'... God's Love indeed, ordained...* *Elijah to shake, hide and run, that we...* *like he, Peter, and others...should feel no shame* *1 Kings 18 & 19* *copyright 2/21/2014-jmsbell*

When faced with EVIL SO POWERFUL, Elijah forgot ALL God had done for him. 0n the opposite spectrum we can read where David brought all of God's VICTORIES TO REMEMBERANCE.

I like your insight on Elijah's weakness, Joyce. How many of us have taken solace from reading about his depression. I'm so glad God put the stories of failures in the bible, along with the victories!
