I went to Calvary that day
and saw them kill…My Lord
I knew I should have done something
but afraid…I pretended accord
I didn’t understand then…why I went
that gruesome scene I did not want to see
I averted my eyes but the hammers still …I heard
as they nailed Him …to that tree
I recalled the times when I followed Him
and I believed…He was who He said
it felt like He was talking only to me
and I even partook…of the fish and bread
Standing there, I was riddled with guilt, tears fell
and I knew I’d never be the same
I was deserting Him when He needed a friend...
Oh, the shame!
I wanted to hide in a hole somewhere
to forget what I knew was true
but as I started to leave, I heard Him say,
‘forgive them Father, they know not what they do’
I turned and His eyes, full of love, gazed straight at me
suddenly, it didn’t matter …what anyone thought
I fell to the ground…begged for forgiveness
and there…began to walk in the truth He taught
There’s no question in my mind
that it was…Messiah… they did slay
and I saw them lay Him in a tomb...but
Three days later it was empty…the stone rolled away!
I know He defeated Calvary just like He said He would
that’s why I spread the Good News abroad
He’s not dead…He’s Alive…He’s Risen!
He’s God’s Son, Jesus…My Lord!
Now, I never fail to correct and defend His Name
He’s Redeemer who, for us, with His Blood did pay
hence, forever I am grateful that God directed me…and
I went to Calvary...that day
