Reflecting on Colors
by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen
It was fun
to dust off her past and recede...
into dreaming haze,
of early watercolor days,
as she remembers the passionate height,
and the lust
of hope, thinking, then,
"This might be what I excel at,
where my ambition lies,
at last!"
The confidence and brashful thoughts
of her imagined,
victorious ease of conquest
fired her being,
melted her wizened self-doubts,
causing furious re-activation
of her incorporeal being,
at last!
Her older self softly laughs,
sorting through time's portfolio,
caressing fragile colors,
on curling watered paper,
gazing raptly at line's forms
and identifying tonal textures.
She fingers the softness of brushes,
and examines color's dry luster,
all in their appointed paletted positions,
but, cracked with time's passage,
awaiting life's breath of water,
to come vibrantly alive,
at last!
Same teacher, different time,
less students interested
in learning how to
mix pigments with amazed hands,
adding quantitative amounts of water,
exerting self-control, and
touching the paper
with the lightest of washes,
building the colors in layers,
while painting their pictures
of love and self worth.
She thinks she knows how to,
at last.

Shoot, scanner's "down", meaning, I can't figure out why I keep getting an error, I've jiggled and unplugged, on my knees under my computer desk at almost midnight MST, and it's late! :) Will try tomorrow, fun first class! I recommend painting in any form, it is alot like poetry, lining up the colors, adding angles and curves, throwing in some punch...ahh, the power of colorful words!
with the lightest of washes,
building the colors in layers,
while painting their pictures
of love and self worth.
She thinks she knows how to,
at last.
OH, YOU! Love the artwork used here, also...and love your poetic artsitry...and this last stanza is a gift! as are You!
loved the poem...oh, 'reflecting' then realizing that time does pass, but...oh, much beauty within this...sigh, love your work, my friend!
