Marred Beauty

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Poem Artwork
Happenstance repressed your majesty,
perhaps more spring water could have birthed
perfection’s seeds beneath your petaled form,
revealing essence of crimson's oblique worth.

Appreciation should patiently conjoin
with perspective viewed without fool’s will,
earthy naivety shrived by eternity
cannot trust opaqueness to live fulfilled.

So, flourish now, singular beauty,
be shallowed by no man’s obtuse sight,
Nature made, sovereignty delayed;
I extol your timeless right to thrive.

Nice. Do you mean "earthy" or "earthly"?

I'm thinking of Jewel, or maybe that blot on Cindy Crawford's face, or maybe, just maybe, Michael Jackson's attempts at beauty (disregarding the charges against him for the moment). Should those "modified" by nature be included with those "changed" by surgeon's knife? Do they all "have a right to thrive"? Thanks, Erin!

Like Katy, I too read it several times, wavering over the rose's persona. I will read it many more times, I know -- it is an awsome, write.

Egads, Erin! You have taken so many subtle paths with this, in my reading of it.. for the rose, for a woman, life itself. I read it 3 times and just let my mind completely wander where it would.. layer upon layer, I was fascinated even just to be in the company of these words and your blending of them.. your delivery is, as Ed says, mesmerizing. My library will be enhanced and visited often with this in it. God, I just love this one! love, katy xox.
