THE PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN song lyrics
by Joel Sattler
the sun was coming up
over the highland hills
the sky was turning blue
I can see it still
there on the horizon
the night was almost done
and that's when I first heard
the piper at the gates of dawn
there were echoes down the valley
echoes round the glen
echoes in the forest
echoes never end
echoes in my memory
echoes of the law
the justice of the music
the piper at the gates of dawn
it's been such a long time
a long long lonesome time
serving a full sentence
for an unknown crime
they're speaking in a language
I cannot understand
you can take my freedom
but I am still a man
the sun was going down
over the prison walls
and somewhere in the distance
I heard the wolf pack call
I once had my own life
but that life is gone
and all that's left of tomorrow
is the piper at the gates of dawn

Reviews of "THE PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN song lyrics by Joel Sattler"
I really like this song. It could be a big hit. But I find the key line "the piper at the gates of dawn," to be a stretch. I think something like, "the piper greets the dawn" or "the piper in the dew." To be less incongruent with the longing to be released from prison.
