 You looked at me

 I looked at you

I spoke words

You listen

Now you hate me

Asking where was I

In our younger days

When true love

could have been.

~*~

Now in our twilight

Golden years

We stare and wonder,

The past is gone

There is no yesterday

But the ashes of

Of time lost.

~*~

In the unknown

Answers

of the what could have been

Are not there

Those moments are lost

like crystal tear drops

In the rain.

~*~

From a distance

She looked at me

I looked at here

She spoke, I spoke

Now she hates me.

~*~

William,
An intriguing write. I like how strong the feeling of 'what could have been' is here. The last line felt like a conclusion to all that emotion. Great work with these emotions. Love and Hugs,
Sheila

A very emotional write...such a sad write, but too often is the reality.

Never regret, just remenisce is my little quote! Such a sad piece indeed yet a great tool even for those who think they are learned. Pain is an important, we need our pains for it is how we learn and are molded and shaped into who we are and will be. Ahhh thanks for a most pleasurable thought emotive piece to enjoy!

William, You know there is a fine line between love and hate. I can't imagine anyone hating you. On the contrar! I am hoping that this is just good writing and it is not about you. I know you well enough, dear friend, and You, are an amazing author..
Much peace, love, and light,

Altho this story is sad... it made me smile too... My first marriage was when I was 18 and he was almost 40! Rich and married before...I was pure and naive..and thought marriage was forever...Ha! Ten years later I was mom to 3 little ones...and I ran as fast as I could...strangely...I learned a little too late...that I was his fourth wife! and after me three more! I the only one with his bio children... For years he wrote me love letters...even tho we both had remarried...He always said..."You will always be my only REAL wife..my only REAL love"...and I always felt so sad for him..that he was always searching ... He kept calling and writing me, all the years...I was married 30 yrs and had found the love of my life...and knew I'd made the right decision long before... but it's still sad when people "invent" a life by reading between the lines of what can never really be! Enjoy life as it comes...day by day... that is all I can ever hope to pass along to others... Sometimes...things are just not meant to be... so don't waste what is... hugs, lindalaw

Been there, done that. My 'ex' recently passed away but, fortunately, he couldn't remember why we divorced but still saw me as beautiful, his 'beloved' wife. Unfortunately, we'd both remarried and his 'second' kept hitting him over the head for staring at me 'with longing.' (They'd come to Oregon to see the grandkids and we're raising one of them. Six months later he passed away--end renal disease.)
Sometimes love and hate skate a narrow pathway and vear off now and then.
Time, also, is unkind to many people, their dreams, their finances.
Well written, my friend. Know that, alas, all things pass. Even feelings like these though I DO hope this is simply a poem of thought, not reality.

Love,
Sandy

Oh boy! ain't you learned yet that when they talk you only have to listen? and that when you talk better doing with yourself?
A Musketeer should know that there is not "right time" and that when they whistle you better not let them waiting! ! ! :-) LOL

Bill, what we want and need at 17, 25, 32, and 40 is far different than what we want and need at 55+. And so many of us waste time trying to find that first "real" love that we thought would last forever that we fail to see what's right in front of us. A lasting abiding love based on a mature and real love that will last forever. If I ever find someone who I can respect, love and share my life with I will die a happy woman. Your piece is so sad because the forest of what might have been is blocking the view of what can be.

Please forgive the rambling, I'm in a meloncoly(sp) mood, my cat died today.

Sometimes when we are young, we aren't sure what or who we want...some are lucky to find it in their youth but to find love at anytime is a blessing...she doen't hate you she hates the time you both missed...great write, brought back so many memories...love and hugs to you William. Love, Bonnie
