What do you do when your hands are tied
When your heart is aching and your strength is tired
What can you do for a friend who needs to mend
Where to begin?
How do you uncage a magnificent bird
How can he eat, this is absurd
How do you rock him to sleep when he's cold
How to enfold?
Where do you run with him when you're through
Where does the Phoenix fly but to you
Where can you lull his weeping tears
Where down the years?
Hopeless and angry my tears well
Why has he fallen into this Hell
How can he live when he's not free to fly
Caught in this trap and not knowing why.
Love is the catalyst it unlocks the cage
Hopefully time will set the stage
Molting poor Phoenix how will you cope
Tethered and flightless ...caged with no hope.
Oh, you have written...oh, this, so special...means more than i can say, strange, was just now thinking along these lines...of a friend and you, so perectly capture what...the new hope, the new sky one wants to give...beautiful, compassionate, deeply felt beauty in words and what they hold...so many thanks for this, Susan..beauty of heart, gifted poet/human being...(((you)))
