I Could Never Be Her

Poem Artwork

 I Could Never Be Her

© 2013 Sherry Bach

I could never be her

Not that she's bad, we're just different

Her outward appearance is close to perfect

The nails, the hair, the boob implants, the botox

The jewelry, expensive clothes, even the way she walks

I don't feel inferior because I like me

And I always try to be the best that I can be

It's just that I will never have a polish like that

Let me explain more about

What I'm trying to get at

The body is temporal, the spirit is real

I spend more time and money on the inside

Learning the best way to feel

This life, this love, placed in my heart

For a specific reason, I'm playing a specific part

In the sum of the whole

I'm just a small piece, set up by my creator

Who's obligated by promises to provide what I need

If I will listen, if I am willing

He'll carry me along, to the land of the living

I won't be caught dead with the walking dead

Those who think this is it, nothing ever after

Too many co-incidences for me to know better

I dare you to see, dare you to believe

Open your eyes, trust the one who never deceives

If you see me wearing make-up and fixing my hair

That's about as close as I'll get to being compared

With women of great beauty, women with flair

I look instead into the eyes of grace

Hoping that that attractiveness looks good on my face

Longing for the day when the body is transformed

Not by superficial means but by the one

Who made it, who knows it, who gave it breath

Perfection is not meant for the earth

It's meant for a place I haven't been yet

The greatest vision to ever crush me might have been able to pass unnoticed through a crowd- but I had already learned how to see her.

Ed threw my browser out of kilter with his humor. Let me just say this… Some of the most beautiful women that I know do very little to pump up their self-esteem and plastic surgery and other things. I also agree that unwanted hair, a little lipstick for pale lips, and a comb can do wonders. I find small imperfections like scars, moles, and freckles, can be extremely attractive. And, the size of one's breasts doesn't really matter as long as they're not so heavy to be sagging or causing discomfort. Finally, paying attention to diet and exercise is far more work than artificially enhancing what isn't there.
