SEEING GLASGOW FROM VENICE
(Vedere Glasgow da Venezia)

Vivaldi on a gondola
gliding up the Broomielaw;
every journey he takes is one
in the eye for his asthma.
Titian admiring the Templeton
carpet factory; very like the Doge's palace.
James Brown Muir looking up
at the rolls of fat in the Guggenheim.
Dining out tonight with Chinzia,
a raven-haired 'stoater'
who likes his sense of humour:
the night is young,
La notte e jovene.

JULIETA

Julieta's statue in Verona;
Graphite pencil and sugar paper,
the rubbing I take is only
for the texture.

The invisible hand of Veronese
guided me, signore!

I can see Vivaldi on a gondola;
every journey he takes is one in the eye
for his asthma.
And there's Turner, about to evoke
another beautiful red sunset.

Was it Marcel Proust who said,
When I moved to Venice
my dreams became my address.

Yes... Thanks for the stroll .. very vivid poetry..Wowed

This is a delight! Your forwarding address is etched on every line... see you there! (In your dreams? But, of course!) Could have been Marcel Proust who had the idea, but you have said it flawlessly with this artistic masterpiece, Kenny. TY Kate xx

it takes a poet's heart to make such connections, to see reflections of the other in the waters of the here and now. and Venice is inspiring, isn't it?
