Mussorgsky's one of those ill-starred composers who was fond of a drink. A Russian, who must have battled a few demons in his life, trudging through the snow on many a dark Moscow winter night wondering where his next opera was coming from.
BORIS GODUNOV
A big bell rang for me
hearing Boris Godunov;
I listened to the chorus
and was transported
by the Russian melodies.
I had fallen like the Tzar
under the weight of troubles
I couldn't shake off,
but Mussorgsky's striking music
- the music of the clocks -
made me feel like a king,
like a Romanov.
The music held an urgent message:
The devil's biting your tail,
Boris Godunov!
He fell with a thud,
the great bell tolled,
dead at last, the unhappy Tzar.
KENNY!!!! One of your very, very best... beats War And Peace into a cocked hat... in fact, says it all very much more poetically and succinctly. Life, love, loss... and liquor. Much depth here as well as an unaffected display of encyclopaedic knowledge, as always. I bow to you, my Mentor... Eloise needs to return to her lessons... A monk's life is obviously good for your soul... Lovin ya, Ken xx

Most of the Russian Greats seem to have had a sad past.
Wonder if that is what turned then to the arts...
Wow! Kenny! You had me in attendance and I saw the rich colors of the opera compounded with the fall of a deep giant. You are an awesome spinner of characteristic poetry.
Love and peace,
