If Balthus was a young man again,
he'd come to Songzhuang and show us everything
beautiful about Chinese women.
Traditional culture though it is,
the village girls would model for the Polish count,
the handsome laowai.
He'd rent a spacious studio
- bedroom on the top floor -
sell one painting a year (at least one!)
to cover the rent of 50,000 yuan.
He could drink white wine
with his comrades in Art,
attend banquets with curators and dealers,
buy his materials from the local art store
his aristocratic face opening doors.
If Balthus returned from the big studio in the sky
we would roll out the red carpet
for such a great artist.
