Freedy Johnston played in a club in Lawrence, Kansas one night.

Poem Artwork

Freedy on the Radio

Mr Johnston gave it his all
Singing of the broken mirror
But it didn’t help the sound
Of pain rushing through my soul.

He was in the smoldering bar
Hoping his songs would carry
All the power of deep love
To the sad pain of empty hearts.

Mr Johnston gave it his all
With his six-string guitar and his
Silver voice, strung way up high
Notes floating above my spinning head.

And nothing happened to him
Mass Street was hopping outside
And Lawrence watched the shadow rise
As the sun gathered speed in the west.

But the radio didn’t give at all
Mr Johnston wasn’t given the time of day
On the radio as he sang and played
To push the pain of love from my soul

But as he left the stage
He turned and smiled at the ghost
Hovering over my dead soul
He knew you were hiding there.

Perhaps it was you, Day, playing Freedy on the Radio, that man with his six-string in the bar...I know your secret desire Pastor! I love the imagery throughout this! Sometimes nothing penetrates the blue feeling of lost love.

Funny how those demons lurk in the shadows...deep and well written.
