Nightmare Crack

At night they creep in
Through all the little cracks
We don't dare acknowledge
With shadows of black

They push through the seams
And infiltrate dreams
Upstaging night's kiss
Of peaceful abyss

Such riot! Such tease!
Restraint holds not one
For there in the darkness
Their freedom is run

Carnage collected
Displayed and inspected
Then branded on psyche's crest
Seared on the tear, each night to appear
Where riots will not allow rest

Shadows that follow into the dawn
Fading, then clear as the sky
Verdant as springtime's virginal lawn
To jungles that block out the sky

Dreams of the shadows, that cover the black
Flooding....as swimming....is learned
Structured facade, criss crossed and cracked

The shadows

Are merely.....concern

Shadows...a deep and often dangerous metaphor eliciting somany different feelings from the danger of the unknown to one lovingly sewn to us so that it's not lost a la Wendy in Peter Pan...There's so much more here than a head start on Halloween...

Shadows are child's play or fear. They creep in th and they caress the night. They are enigmas of a creative mind. Your poetry is always a welcome to me, your number one fan.

Wow nightmare city reflects the demons of the night in this intense poem that probes the dark of our minds and the dark of the night. Way to go, great stuff.

Anita ...

You splash thoughts and images on the page with the frenzied finesse of a master. Such a mind as yours can never be kept a secret.

And in so saying I hereby promote you once again ... this time to GODDESS OF UNIVERSAL ENLIGHTENMENT!

Reading poems like this is like chewing and savoring a Filet Mignon, sipping vintage wine, and watching a multi-faceted sunset. And then realizing that a meteor just hit the sidewalk in front of your house.

A deep river of mystery you are Alice ...

There are many dark shadows in the world that are truly scary and they never rest until they have done their harm.

Then branded on psyche's crest
I know the feeling only too well.

Shadows that follow into the dawn
Followed? Often pursued relentlessly! Seems to be the thing as I get older. The dreams are less pleasant - not necessarily nightmares - but hardly the dreams that I regret waking up from. Now here's a thought. You have a friend or loved one in your dream. You wake up before it finishes. The dream has been so real that you find yourself asking the person in your dream how it ended. When we start dreaming to such an intensity, that's when the 'shadows follow us' not just to the dawn but right through to the dawn of August - if you get my drift.
Thought provoking as ever, Anita. Once I get my teeth into your imagery I chew it thoroughly then I am off on a cerebral tangent!

What a colossal matrix like construction this is

You criss cross the ephemeral gridlines of surreal dreams, that
figure prominently in our psyche and subsconcious

Our job is to interpret and understand the sublime symbols, signs and tokens that ilfiltrate our unconscious mind, and translate them to
good effect and purpose, in our daytime preambles..

What a scintillating poet you are Anita..

They really do, so I seal up all those little cracks - with duct tape.
