What if everyone knew…
--that the bottom 50 percent of all U.S. tax filers have an average income of $15,292.
--that this same group has no net worth at all (assets minus debts)
--that the top 20 percent has $11.5 trillion of income, and $53 trillion of net worth.
--that the richest country in history also has the most unequal sharing of wealth in history.
--that rich and poor have equal talents, equal intelligence, equal love of country, and
equal love of God.
--that most wealth is inherited, directly or indirectly.
--that excessive wealth is the #1 cause of poverty.
--that if the rich shared just $1 trillion of their wealth (3 months of interest income on their wealth), the bottom 50 percent’s income would double for the year. All 70 million of them.
Would these truths make a difference in how we see each other, in how we treat each other, and in how we share in our good fortune? I’m just asking…
