Twenty...I couldn't wait to get there... The big step from nineteen to manhood. Or so I thought. Naïveté had duped another victim. The period of becoming a man Comes much later, at least for most. What will others think of me For confessing my guilt? I don't know. The truth of the matter is this: Age does not equal the birth of maturity. Moreover, understanding is ageless, And life's experiences ripens the individual. Now that I'm in my seventh decade of life, Maturation has settled within my soul. The magical leap from nineteen to twenty Was hardly noticeable at all. Each decade has brought its set of changes, Nudging me to adapt to a new way of life. Let's say I reach that gray step of eighty, And have the good sense of knowing I'm there. I pray others can glean bits of wisdom From lessons I've learned each step of the way.
I CAN ATTEST THE GOOD LORD USES YOU WELL, DAVID. WHEN ONE DOES BEGIN TO MATURE, THE EVIDENCE OF THE PRESENCE OF WISDOM BEGINS AT HOME AND THEN IS SPREAD ABOARD. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
A great reflective piece David...unlike the men here, I am not revealing which decade of life I am in...perhaps when I am fully mature I shall do this without a second thought! :-)
I think having my three children was the significant maturing process for me...realising I was responsible for another life who relied on me hundred per cent...
So good to read your work again...

One day when I grow up, maybe I can feel like I'm there. Ironic that when we reach a certain level of wisdom and maturity, then death is surely near. Just sayin. I enjoyed this. Bob
I like what Michael had to say and I did glean some wisdom from this even though I did not like hearing that I am still maturing in my sixth decade of life...hope I make seventh...Peace, -e-
It is so good to see you back posting after what seems like a decade of absence. While I had a major change in life between 20 and 21, I've always felt that I reached maturity about eight or nine when I took charge and responsibility for my own behavior. Of course there was the long process of how to deal with women that I haven't learned fully yet reaching the same milestone in decades as you.
I'm sure that if you keep posting into your 90s, many will glean wisdom from your words.
