Mother Dear, Can You Hear Us?

* Dedicated to all Mothers, Everywhere; but, Especially those in Heaven * 




Mother Dear, Can You Hear Us? 



Who was it that bore us in the womb,
and carried such a burden, day by day? 

Was it you that took the pain and cried 

'Til we saw the first break of day? 



Who nursed us, bathed us, dressed us,
sang lullabies to ease life's pain, 

and when we cried, tenderly caressed us 

'Til peaceful slumber came again? 


Mother Dear, can you hear us? 




Who stitched, sewed, ironed all night
so we could proudly stroll to school? 

And who also taught us wrong from right 

spared the rod, used the "Golden Rule"? 



Who scrubbed floors, cooked our meals,
and labored hard each and every day, 

just so we would know how it feels,
to enjoy our childhood's play? 


Mother Dear, can you hear us? 




Who sacrificed, and did without,
so we would know no shame, 

and many times, took father's clout,
when really, we were to blame? 



As time went by, we spread our wings,
and often we were apt to go astray, 

but, as we went out to "do our things",
whose watchful eye guided our way? 


Mother Dear, can you hear us? 




The years have flown swiftly by, 

and time has made us much the wiser, 

as now we raise our glasses high, 

who here can not praise her? 


Thank you, Mother Dear, please hear us!
