At the Threshold
By John Herlihy

Now with every step, we stand on a threshold;
A curtain can be drawn new worlds to behold.
Alien possibilities are revealed in a new world,
Lost in the folds of colored banners unfurled.
Dusty cobwebs do sully our every discovery,
Modern maladies with little hope of recovery.
Our principles vanished into distant illusions,
As we grapple in the dust of modern delusions.

Ancient hieroglyphics dim secrets forever hold,
Of a higher dimension often repeated and told.
Gaze not at yesterday, today or even tomorrow,
Neither any minutes from the hour to borrow.
The life of the soul resides within as a question,
Our every thought reflects as a mere suggestion.
The miraculous moments of the eternal now
Do stir our hopes and aspirations somehow.

All of blessed nature smiles as it surrounds me;
Inner worlds will unfold designed to astound me.
The sun, moon and stars in the heavens up above
Know nothing of the palpitations of human love.
The flutter of feathered wings, the hum of bees,
Seem as nothing to what the human heart sees.
With every step, we cross a miraculous threshold,
As we finally lift the curtain new worlds to behold.

"As we grapple in the dust of modern delusions."
Man, that says it all.

it is interesting to know that a human body is periodically renewed in its various parts. However, the aging is an inevitable process. The curtain is a very strong image used here to divide the reality into available and unavailable so far. We, the humans, are always trying to look behind the unknown before getting a strongly reliable knowledge of the already known. Yes, get a glimpse of the future even before we are ready for that is our inherent curiosity. As is known, a cat is dead because of curiosity ;)) Cheers, alex

I like the picture that accompanies this poem, but I like your images even better. The last stanza is especially amazing.

Yes, with every second, step and breath we cross a threshold, and no one knows what the the future may bring. Enjoyed.
