Worlds On Offer
By John Herlihy

I want little of what the world has to offer,
Just give me the sun, moon and the stars.
Content with treasures I have in my coffer,
On our journey to realms far beyond Mars.

My earthly experiences written in shorthand,
They have their value, often born of a whim.
With no need to know my future beforehand,
What the world has to offer shines ever dim.

Someone told us to pursue success and fame;
Goals are important, without them we are adrift.
Our true identify cannot be discovered in a name;
Marque lights shine brightly, but have little lift.

Others tell us we have only one life ours to live;
One life that we can claim as only ours to give.
What if that life were only a piece of the puzzle,
A brief moment to signify our depth of struggle.

What if our life but a one cornered dimension;
Once filled, we are lifted up high in suspension.
Why do we lock ourselves into the earthly box,
Content to take part in a school of hard knocks.

Then there is the perennial question of the end,
What happens as we come round the final bend?
Why do we ponder the question of our end at all?
Final answers make no sense, only cast a pall.

Let us accept graciously what the world has to offer,
Without thinking that this world is the only one that be.
Let us turn within to examine what the soul may proffer;
We may be surprised to discover the glory we might see.

I'M NOT WORRIED ABOUT 'THE END'...I WASN'T IN CHARGE OF MY BEGINNING AND I'M NOT IN CHARGE OF MY END. SO, THOUGH I AGREE THAT 'HE' CREATED OTHER WORLDS, THIS WORLD IS WHERE 'HE' PLACED HUMANITY, THUS, I AGREE WITH YOUR FIRST TWO STANZAS COMPLETELY. FOR, THOSE PRICELESS POSSESSIONS ARE FINE UNTIL I'M CALLED INTO A REALM WHERE 'HE', 'THE' TREASURE ABOVE ALL TREASURES, FOR ALL ETERNITY...IS MINE. THANKS FOR THE SHARE. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

I often tell evangelicals not to dwell so on the future. We should focus on today and living our lives as best we can. The future is ever changing so why waste valuable time pursuing what isn't even tangible until we die? A thoughtful poem that reflects perfectly my beliefs.

The title kind of put me off, but the first line straightened that out. You and I am trying to about enjoying what the world is, the way it is and not pining for something else that takes us away from reality. And I find the real world very fascinating the way it is. Thanks to technology, I'm being made more and more aware of the richness we have right here, in this little corner of the universe.

We are constantly changing, so there are always unanswered questions, but one question remains constant. Is this all there is?

All are not of the same purpose, John. Some are content with what they have, and some strive to climb that highest mountain of success. This what makes the world unique, no one is never the same.

I see a fisherman on the picture above this wonderful poem. In old Chinese oral tradition and literature there are two images of truly free men: a fisherman and a woodcutter; when every time both meet together to chat of nothing, something supernatural happens in the air. . . the ways of Dao come through that secluded place in the deep mountains to bless the whole world with its banks, enterprises, and street lives. What else could be higher than that? Cheers, alex
