- A Thousand Times Goodbye –

John Herlihy

A thousand times I have said goodbye,

A thousand times I did not know why.

To say goodbye means this and more,

To leave behind the intimacy of before.

When we at first met and did say hello,

Now seems as an eternity of long ago.

Never did we think we may ever part,

Not later on, and never from the start.

Every day that comes and that goes by,

Every day seems like another goodbye.

Why say goodbye when you never left,

Leave-taking seems as a form of theft.

Forget goodbye, let us again say hello,

Like a thousand falling flakes of snow.

Excellently presented, John! Certain situations, I'm sure, appreciate your words that reach right down their necks and grabs their hearts! I'm so sure that many are able to relate. Write it and they will read.

Love ya!

Sometimes it's easy to say goodbye, but usually goodbyes are hard, no matter how many times we say them. Enjoyed.

I'm with you there, John, with all those goodbyes. I am also with you where I would love to say, "hello" again. It seems we never learn.

A Beautiful rendering oflove's spirit, of graciousness for the unknown, and especially positive in its trust in the paradox that loss is gain if allowed to teach us. Bravo!
