--- In the Scheme of Things ---
By John Herlihy
In the scheme of things, we see multiple worlds,
Colorful folds draped in cloth as a banner unfurls.
At first, the world but a globe at loose in the void,
But shadowy worlds everywhere we cannot avoid.
Planets themselves with an enticing air of mystery,
Alien civilizations chronicled in the pages of history.
Some points within this world must touch the Other,
Mystery shines as sparks of light we cannot smother.
The moon appears dead where nothing comes to life,
Our world teems with life, but graves of the dead rife.
The Other a parallel world leading from the outside in,
Once inside, we feel the enormity, the world but a pin.
A knowing God has uncommon love for common man,
His wisdom there in a blade of grass with no demand.
We listen but do we ever hear what the Divinity sings,
Ever sweetly, ever profoundly, in the scheme of things.
