-- Thought for a Day -–
John Herlihy
Calendars, diaries, newspapers, and digests,
They all have their respective thought of the day.
Respected thoughts that the weary mind ingests,
Soothe tempers, smooth feathers, come what may.
I, on the other hand, end up writing a poem a day,
A probing soul who hopes he has something to say.
Idle thoughts run wild, free, in the early morning hours,
Exploring corridors of the mind and its latent powers.
To put shine on life’s pavement after a summer storm,
To bedeck the day with a single petal, our hearts to adorn.
To forget all miseries for one brief moment at day’s dawn,
To infuse brightness into the dew on my summer front lawn.
One single, solitary thought like a cut lily that will never wilt,
Always there to inspire what the day’s architecture has built.
