-- In Ocean Depths -–
John Herlihy
The waves of the ocean are only surface deep,
In the depths of sublime waters, we feel meek.
Wandering placidly around for food in schools,
We fish in another world, by another set of rules.
The fish observe the cascading crashing above,
They feel the ripples over scales; it feels like love.
Waves rumble onward to some far distant shore,
Fulfilling their promise of tidal surges and more.
No longer the lingering fear of going deep under,
Cast down from this world into a world of wonder.
Sun’s rays stream down thru a stain glass window,
Into a murky hidden vault of this watery cathedral.
Steady lines of music echoes eerily from distance,
A fading edge of ancient music has no resistance.
In ancient depths linger the hint of another world,
Where an ugly oyster creates the beauty of a pearl.
