-- My Whole World Sings -–
John Herlihy
I touch the sky with tender fingertips;
I kiss the hem of earth with moist lips.
My fingers caress fields of wheat in light;
My ears listen to a wind invisible to sight.
Can we smell the honey of rain, I think I do?
Murmur sweet nothings to the morning dew.
My eyes see the colors in nature’s bouquet;
Animals are known thru the sounds they say.
The braying of the donkey, the cry of the loon;
The howl of wolf and wind make me swoon.
I listen as the sea sings the rhythm of the blues;
My soul fills with night’s black and daytime hues.
The sweetness of nectar will thrill my tongue;
From the bellows of my lungs my song is sung.
Then there are the taut wires of my heart strings;
When plucked by another, my whole world sings.
