-- Our Meager Senses --

John Herlihy

The senses wander around in pursuit of meager fare;

In striving for perfection, they offer up only a prayer.

Little orphans they are, in a world that offers them so much;

Yet they squander the unique gifts of seeing, tasting, touch.

What do we ever hear when we take little time to listen?

What do we see when we take no notice the stars glisten?

All the perfumes of Arabia carried by the wind to our nose;

A cornucopia of fruits and vegetables, yet we prefer to dose.

Our God-given instruments are there with so much to tell;

Sights, sounds and smells of beauty that resonate as a bell.

Forget not the glorious sense of touch, the handmaiden of love;

To touch and be touched in return, a sign of blessing from above.

Let us use each of our senses as they offer their unique proposal;

To smell, to taste, and to touch multiple worlds at our disposal.

Oh, that last line, John~~~~sensual. And for those "perfumes of Arabia"....I love them....You take me back to when "Arabian Nights" was the only cologne I'd use. You speak of "touch". It is a miraculous thing a and is able to change many lives. Write on, hon!!

Love ya!

BEAUTIFUL, WHAT A GIFT IT IS TO TOUCH AND BE TOUCHED. IF NOT IN PERSON THEN BY THE WORD. XO

Your poem certainly makes a lot of "sense."
