-- Things You Never Do --

John Herlihy

Let me recall the things that you never do,

All those things undone that I never knew.

Let me offer in return a wildflower bouquet,

Giving voice to sweet emotions I never say.

Never to talk back with any hateful remarks,

Never to inspire anger and its stinging sparks.

Never to leave unsaid what needed to be said,

Never to break open my tender heart ‘til it bled.

Never to force me into a wrongful compromise,

Never to ask me to do a thing that I may despise.

Never to throw me down into the well of despair,

Never to create any situation we could not repair.

Never did you ask to take back any words spoken,

Never to speak any word to leave my heart broken.

But broken it is as a result of your untimely passing;

So many things you will never do, forever amassing.

DEAR JOHN, VERY WELL DONE AND ENJOYED! OF COURSE THE 'LIST' GOES ON AND ON, FOR WE ARE FOREVER STRETCHING TO REACH 'PERFECTION' BUT NEVER QUITE ATTAINING IT. HOWEVER, THE CREDIT IS GIVEN NOT FOR THE MASS OF THINGS THAT WE NEVER CONQUERED BUT FOR AT LEAST...TRYING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

I am so deep deeply touched by your words, John. Did you write this using tinted tears?

Love ya!

Your words hit the spot in my heart that misses my brother who died too young. I think of all the things he can't do, that he will never have a chance to do. I miss him.

Oh so bittersweet! One of your best! Throughout the poem you extol the merits of someone very close. So close that the "nevers" marks the perfect relationship. Until the end, when the truth is revealed. Never really is referring to someone who is lost and never able to inflict anything at all.

Ron

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
