-- Lost Love Found --

By John Herlihy

He could not assume

That her love for him was real

He could not presume

That his love for her was unreal

He could not pretend

About the true nature of his desire

He could not amend

That the force of her love did inspire

He would often wonder

About the light of her true intentions

He would often plunder

To free his mind of its inventions

He could not say why

He felt so intense in this way

He could not even deny

What he longed for her to say

He could not clearly see

That what she said was true

He could heartily agree

This was a love he never knew

He finally began to visualize

The perfect love found in her eye

He finally began to realize

How such love made him feel shy

He finally did confess

Never loved like this before

He must now finally profess

This true love of his and more

Love to fill the moment, the hour

To linger, to last across the years

Love that in giving finds power

Thru faith and trust, and thru tears

Neither of them knew

What it was they should say

Neither of them knew

How long they stood that way

In the end they said nothing

The sober moment held in repose

Their eyes had everything to say

Expressing a love nobody else knows

We don't know what transpires between lovers. Only they are witness to the secrets kept and shared. As it should be.

A resounding shout out for the body language that is, as you say, "expressing a love nobody knows." Living in a world of "trophy" prized partners, mates and companions, you bring to the forefront with this insightful build up, the true focus of love. Well done, John.

We bare our hart when we pursue love, and risk the pain of rejection. We never really know what is in another persons heart, and it's the pain of rejection that can keep us from expressing our feelings. This was beautifully written, and I enjoyed the way it was written with the rhyming you employed.

So sad. I wonder how many of us have done just this, been too afraid of exposing our feelings and ended up losing the one true love of our lives. I know I have.
