 -- Timeless Things --

By John Herlihy

We speak of the timeless as if we know what it means,

An idea of eternity supposed to speak for itself it seems.

Vast realms there for the taking that we wish to explore,

But as we dig deeper in this cave, we find little to adore.

At first the idea of eternity seems to float along forever,

Till we reach a stumbling block that seems to end never.

What does that mean and is it what we really may want,

Or is this notion of eternity just an idea that may taunt?

If eternity exists at all, it must mean we exist in eternity,

Just as beyond the horizon leads to the space of infinity.

But even the sky seems to limit itself in its limitless blue,

Just as night sky seems to limit itself in its limitless black.

Perhaps what we must do is take all the things we know,

Turn them into timeless things we will never fully know.

Do we ever really understand anything? Just when we think we've figured something out we realize we really didn't know a thing about it in the first place. A thought provoking write, to say the least.

You're not allowed to ask tough questions without also trying to
answer them. That way your readers can take out their own ignorance on you for having the temerity of posing questions that are too tough to answer. Does this make any sense?
