-- Out of Darkness Daylight --

By John Herlihy

This dark soul of night across infinity eternal,

Darkness a kind of silence, its gaze nocturnal.

In an abyss of quietude emerges a new sense,

Never once seen, never existed in past tense.

Within the heavy folds of the darkness spread,

Remote specks in the deepest dark night fed.

The melancholy heart of night begins to wail,

Sensing an onslaught that will its heart impale.

Darkness now weakens as it falls into a sieve,

Transformed little specks of light begin to live.

Who may imagine an ebony darkness of night,

Invaded in slow motion as tiny specks of light.

In a breath of wind, the miracle of light born,

Daylight from a heart of darkness newly torn.

Such a perfect metaphoric depiction of what is happening in the US. If only.

For some people night is a time of the darkness of the soul that is only alleviated by the coming of day. I think your poem expresses this beautifully.

Nothing is quite as dark as a dark heart. Superb!
