-- The Grateful Mind --
John Herlihy
The grateful mind, oh wherever have you gone,
Lost among the brambles, impaled on a thorn.
Once you waited patiently there in life’s wings;
Your bud ready to bloom when our heart sings.
Children appreciate their little gifts with a flush;
Give them a flower and they smile with a blush.
Express gratitude and people think you are kind;
The emotion never lost amid clutter of your mind.
Now any sense of gratitude lost in the shadows;
Our gratitude now attitude with pointed arrows.
Who has any time now to step outside the ranks,
Appreciative of what comes our way with thanks?
Ingratitude will never say thank you for anything;
Gratitude will always say thank you for everything.
