-- Windows of Night --
John Herlihy
Behold, windows of night reflect soft moon light,
Tempting our weary hearts with its visions bright.
The windows of night open unto a blackness deep;
The cries of night’s wilderness into our hearts seep.
No one will venture to guess if any light be allowed;
Night shadows give way, each wrapped in a shroud.
Stars bursting with light, but the moon only a sliver;
Gentle wind stirs trees a while. as our hearts shiver.
A sleeping rosebud takes no notice of its sharp thorn,
As it awaits the gentle hush to accompany the dawn.
From the distant horizon emerges an unearthly glow;
The cascade of stars falls, from where we never know.
I do stand bravely alert in the face of this vast infinity;
I listen as my heart sings melodies of timeless eternity.
My infant ears never heard soothing lullabies so sweet;
My heart now beats hard, as I await my Maker to meet.

Always makes me want to "go there." You and I won't. But others following us will. Into that deep dark night seeking the light of sister planets.
