-- SOME DAYS --

John Herlihy

Some days,

I awake with a start,

I feel uneasy flutterings in my heart.

Some days,

I don’t want to wake up,

Just hide under the covers and shut up.

Some days,

My body feels as dry as dust.

I don’t want to do things I know I must.

Some days,

My mind is a raging fire,

Emptied of all but one single desire.

Some days,

Everyone is hard to please,

Other days, simply slip by with ease.

Some days,

I am walking a tightrope,

Other days simply go up in smoke.

Some days,

The hours are filled with longing,

Lost in a world with little belonging.

Some days,

I feel my old self missed,

The joyous wonder when first kissed.

Some days,

I am the pigeon, other days a dove.

The world seems hateful, where then the love?

Some days,

I wonder if I will see tomorrow,

While today seems only a thing on borrow.

Some days,

We would like to pretend,

That the day will never, ever end.

Someday.

A day will arrive when I don’t awake.

My soul will then a new world create.

WE ALL CHANGE FROM DAY TO DAY, ESPECIALLY IN THESE CLOUDY DAYS. THANK GOD FOR HIS MARVELOUS STRENGTH AND DIRECTION WHICH STEADIES US. HE WILL KEEP US, WHETHER WAKE OR SLEEP, UNTIL HIS RETURN WITH THAT PROMISED, ETERNAL, UN-CLOUDY DAY IN A NEW HEAVEN AND EARTH...SOME DAY. THANK YOU. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH... HIS+ INSPIRATIONS

The joyous wonder when first kissed. The beat poet whispers his rhythm passing life slowly through an old man's end. Though, too soon, too soon. love this poem.

If it weren't for the date of this poem I would say the isolation may be getting to you. But hopefully you're staying upbeat, knowing this too will come to an end, you will get to go home, and the world will return to a better normal (if we don't forget the lessons this experience has taught us). Chin up!
