Hello brave world, lonely though you may be;
May your bravery come to the fore for all to see.
Everyone now finds themselves living alone;
Whole cities gone quiet as the sun still shone.
All the monuments shut down, plazas empty,
Pigeons on the rooftops, seagulls out to sea.
With no more expectations, let us be surprised;
We keep a safe distance as the doctors advised.
I think of all the people that I have ever known.
Who sick, who well, who fallen in this wind blown?
As a child at Easter, I sang solo in the church choir;
In old age, I now sing solo in this world turned dire.
In our world, we have come to this: lonely and brave,
Our hands and hearts united in one universal wave.
