-- Our Wise Senses --
John Herlihy
I see,
Not with the eye but with the I.
To perceive more than surface projection,
To absorb nature’s inner reflection.
I hear,
Not with the ear but with the heart.
To listen not to the words spoken,
To absorb the inner essence awoken.
I smell,
Not with the nose but with the mind.
Lifted aloft by what life’s perfume tells,
Of wisdom and virtue and sacred bells.
I taste,
Not with the tongue with but the soul.
To savor the fruit of life’s secret desires,
To burn in the embers of life’s sacred fires.
I touch,
Not with the finger but with the breath.
My spirit will absorb all I come to feel,
To allow the world of spirit to become real.
Our wise senses lift our inner veils,
To reveal all the mystery life entails.
