-- My Small Big World --

John Herlihy

My small big world,

I can trace it in the dark.

When awake, I rise and fall,

Gratitude my one remark.

I feel my breath, my pulse,

My heart, my home is near.

Why want to be anywhere else,

Enough just to know I am here.

My small world so big,

I can’t trace it in the dark.

When I close my eyes and dig,

I uncover the song of the lark.

I see far beyond the horizon,

To bring distant mystery near.

An inner world shapes my opinion,

To temper every joy and fear.

I have travelled around the world,

And now I know the world is one.

Home never found on a distant shore,

It beats as a second heart within my core.

NO MATTER WHERE WE ROAM IN THIS BIG WORLD...OUR HEART IS FOUND IN OUR SMALL HOME! AMEN. THANK YOU, JOHN. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

In my own little big world I am the one who is in control of my own destiny. I am the one who is in control of my own happiness without much of the influence from the outside of my own little big world. I belong to myself. My opinion is that of my own and that is good enough for me already.

I read this twice and came away with the same impression both times, that home is where the heart is. As a military brat I learned early on that home was wherever Mom hung the curtains, the same ones no matter where we went. The location and the neighbors would change but it was always home once the curtains went up. Now as an adult I find home within, in my heart, my mind, and my physical presence. They are as constant as Mom's curtains once were. It's nice to belong to one place or another, but how can you truly belong with them when you can't belong first with yourself?

Bravo! You've penned the sentiments that so many need to consider for themselves as this pandemic continues. Today, World Health Org says that we can anticipate an additional 75,000 deaths due to distress and anxiety leading to suicide.
