-- On Being Kind –
John Herlihy
Days have arrived when we can now be kind,
Gone all petty negativity found in our mind.
The virus swept clean our inner world of dust,
Change of routine polished our hearts of rust.
Acts of unkindness we can no longer afford,
While simple kindness brings its own reward.
We pass each other in silent social distancing,
We extend a smile and nod, wisdom in knowing.
Connected by loneliness, in confusion, in grief,
Our brother and sisterhood bring tender relief.
Kind even with myself when I look in the mirror,
Set free of little fears and their lingering terror.
Kindness soothes anxious hearts, we feel its touch,
In bringing us to tears, it costs little but says much.

Love ya!

But in our city, crime has increased. Already, many are desperate for food hard to pay for necessities like rent who have lost their livelihood. There is an increase in domestic violence, percolating in homes where the choices for survival become limited and anger overcomes despair. That is the hidden danger in the peacefulness we see.
Not to discourage your very fine poem. We are one world tied together by this border jumping scourge. Jealous sovereign nations should notice that. Along with their narrow-minded citizens.
