-- Night Light --
John Herlihy
I love to witness morning light,
Just before the dawn.
Stealing the heart of darkness,
With the timidity of a fawn.
I love to absorb the twilight,
Whose peace brings with it calm.
What better way to herald the night,
Than to listen to the day’s final psalm.
I love to catch the moonlight,
As it glimmers through the trees.
The wind may pass by invisible,
But moonlight touches the leaves.
I love to observe the North Star,
As it announces the coming of night.
Its pulsing heart beats steady from afar,
As it bravely outshines the twilight.
I see night light reflected on the bay,
The celestial dome captured in all its wonder.
Each star a mysterious message to convey,
With pure silence that soars as thunder.
