-- Sorrow’s Cup Filled --
John Herlihy
Sorrow seizes our souls with such lasting grief,
Overwhelming our mind with no hope of relief.
We think of sorrow as moodiness without end,
A day has come upon us as if without a friend.
Sorrow but a container where joy will be poured,
The fragile cup now filled as one’s heart soared.
Sorrow’s container grows large in ways untold,
All the better for the fruits of happiness to hold.
We suffer great loss as destiny whispers a word,
The endless echo stirs desire never before heard.
The tears may flow, but eventually they will dry,
Life never promised us anything less as we sigh.
As sorrow comes upon us, think cup to be filled,
With all the joys that await that we ever willed.
