-- Ode to Summer Thunder --
John Herlihy
Summer thunder,
Such wonder.
suddenly there,
Seemingly everywhere.
Stunning of its kind,
Silence left behind.
Our hears seem to stare,
Listening from nowhere.
When will it come,
We feel on the run.
The sound universal,
The fear and awe personal.
Whether crack of a whip,
Or rolling ball let slip.
Lightning pierces the sky,
A thunderbolt flees on high.
Such force, such sound,
Rumbling from sky to ground.
Pigeons fly aloft in flight,
As they escape in fright.
Such a scary thrill,
I am listening still.
One of God’s many voices,
A knowing heart rejoices.
