What are we to do

With all those things that steal into our dreams?

What of those petty thieves

That slip where they don’t belong thru the seams?

What of all those possibilities

That stir our desires, but that never actually happen?

What of all those desires

That dwindle down to burning embers of raging fires?

What of all those petty details

That seize our minds with their overwhelming powers?

What of all the squandered days

Whittling ourselves away in all those wasted hours?

What of all the questions

That seem to hold all of life’s mysteries at bay?

What of all those answers

There on the tip of our tongues with nothing to say?

What of all those promises

That our lives offer but never keep?

What of that one enduring love

So always faithful that it makes we weep?

The answers will come to us, one by one,

Whispered into our ears, from our dreams spun.
