-- A Perfect Future --
John Herlihy
We think of the future as perfect,
Perfection breathes the air of our dreams.
How the present seems oh so imperfect,
And we hardly appreciate what it means.
The past has no hope of perfection,
The presence of everyday dead and gone.
We glance back at the past with rejection,
Its shadowy scope of time holds no song.
We know the perfect future,
Can never be found in the past.
The perfect future could only be found,
In the present moment that will forever last.
The perfect future from eternity torn,
Into the world of the present born.

And I also find so many that look back at the past and some kind of wonderful world of whimsy adventure… Romance. Not remembering or even knowing the drudgery without modern conveniences that we take for granted.
Perhaps you are thinking about how science tries to perfect the future. And in a way, based on world statistics, it does with life better all the time.
