-- Spiritual Compass --
John Herlihy
Our earth coordinates we always take for granted;
The sun rises in the east and then sets in the west.
With winter chill, north in the North Pole planted,
As wise birds fly south to make their winter nest.
What do we understand of the spiritual compass,
That will wrap us up tightly in its mystical shroud?
We are wandering souls found in the Divine Atlas,
Running the risk of being lost in a passing cloud.
Comprised of our origin, source, center and end;
Bound by nature’s laws that we can never escape.
Balance in the spiritual compass we cannot bend;
To lie within, signs only God has power to create.
We have a beginning, of this fact no one will deny;
Our source of spring waters only God did bestow.
Our lives radiate out, on a spiraling center we rely;
Our lives enriched by the soul’s light and its glow.
We have an end, even if our end is but a beginning;
Everything born, lives, dies as nature runs its course.
Yet, the soul lives on and on, its light ever brimming;
To return to the abiding Spirit, still found at the source.

For example: if God decrees that all priests must be male and celibate in order to keep the right moral compass and that the assistants to the priests must be young apprentice males. Would not that moral compass lead more homosexuals to enter the priesthood and therefore, try to initiate young male apprentices into the homosexual lifestyle? God's moral compass? Or man?
