-- SILENT SKY OF NIGHT --
John Herlihy
Not sure I could measure it
Not sure even why I wanted to
But there it is, silence never so heard
Never so present in the mind so wild
The night itself like a lucky charm
The stillness palpable enough to taste it
The landscape quiet miles to the horizon
Except a vague sense of a lisping wind
Whispering in the utter darkness
Murmuring like a distant sea even
The white lace fabric of cold frost
Gathering silently on mustache and hair
And a huge tray of stars, endless seeming
There in the heavens above, all silent-like
Like diamonds, like diamond dust
In the great, black, silent sky of night
