-- How Far the Ocean --

John Herlihy

How far is the ocean from here?

Expansive, endless, a vast world austere.

How far is the horizon from here?

Seemingly oh so far, yet surprisingly oh so near.

How far those mountain peaks from here?

In climbing to the summit, I will lose all my fear.

How far the memories of all that we miss?

This memory still poignant, the wonder of my first kiss.

How far a broken heart in the distant past?

The memory still lingers, but the sadness didn’t last.

How far to reach the end of the road?

Less far than the last step, lightening the load.

How far that flaming sunset from here?

In wind and clouds, in the light of a spear.

How far before entering the coming night?

With phantoms and ghosts and wolves in shadows of light.

How far to reach the land of the unknown?

Just beyond our willingness to finally escape the known.

SO, THE BALL IS IN OUR COURT AND I AGREE...WE CAN GO AS FAR AS OUR 'IMAGINATION' OR 'REALITY' WILL TAKE US, WE CHOOSE! GREAT IMAGERY! LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH....HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Like the quote: one cannot know the future until the past is laid to rest... so too, no one can appreciate the distant reaches of humankind without allowing the past impressions to be but stepping stones on the scree of a mountain challenge. Loved this one.
