-- A Lifetime --
John Herlihy
Once a lifetime to spend,
The world itself on lend.
Eternal moments for the infant,
Sheer delight for the child.
Promise for the pre-adolescent,
A long road for the teenager.
A map of the world for the adult,
Top of the world for the mature.
A downward slope for the aging,
A ticking clock for the elderly.
A blink of an eye for the old,
Hourglass run dry for the senile.
A long lifetime now spent.
Forgotten what it all meant.

But you will not be forgotten when future historians catch your travel logs and find them delightfully arcane and descriptive of the time you lived and traveled so well.
